The Jefferson Territory was voted by the residents in 1859 but was never recognized by Congress. Therefore, some of the counties have organization dates and records prior to 28 February 1861 when the Territory of Colorado was finally recognized.
There are many places to search for answers to your Colorado genealogy questions. If you know what is available, you can make much better use of your time and effort in finding out all you can about your Colorado ancestors in the US. Here is where to start some of your searching.
