Alaska came to us through a purchase from Russia in 1867. The area went through several administrative changes before becoming organized as a territory on May 11, 1912. It was admitted as the 49th state of the U.S. on January 3, 1959.
There are many places to search for answers to your Alaska genealogy questions. If you know what is available, you can make much better use of your time and effort in finding out all you can about your Alaska ancestors in the US. Here is where to start some of your searching.
